GMC continues to push the limits of what you can expect from a pickup with the 2024 GMC Sierra HD. The Sierra HD is headlined with the all-new Denali Ultimate trim, which has an interior and fancy wood trim, comfy seats, and a ton of advanced tech items. There are other changes here, too, as the tow limits have been increased throughout the lineup and a ten-speed automatic transmission for the gasoline-powered V8 trim. Under the hood of the 2024 Sierra HD
If there is one thing that you are assured with the Sierra HD, it's the power that comes from under the hood. Most trim will see an updated version of the 6.6-liter diesel V8 which has 25% more torque even in loftier tow limits. The total rating is 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. This updated engine has a more efficient turbocharger design, new electronic control unit (ECU) programming, and revised cylinder heads. In addition, the stronger diesel engine also increases the towing limit for the 2500HD and 3500HD, which rises to 20,000 pounds with conventional trailering. Using gooseneck and fifth-wheel towing increases to 22,500 pounds for 2500HD models and 36,000 pounds for the 3500HD. Paring with this engine is a ten-speed automatic transmission that provides a smooth ride. The other engine option is a gasoline-powered V8 which gets 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque and now pairs with the ten-speed automatic transmission.
Tech for the Sierra HD
The higher tow ratings for the Sierra HD are well complemented by a mix of outstanding safety and convenience items. Drivers will now be able to get adaptive cruise control while carrying a trailer, and the system can compensate for the additional drag and longer braking distances. A Blind-Spot Monitoring system is also extended to areas around the trailer with new sensors that can tell if the vehicle and trailer weight exceeds the truck's gross weight and weight rating. The Sierra HD also provides you with 14 different camera views, and the Transparent Trailer View uses the cameras at the back of the truck. The trailer disappears from the scene display, so you will get a better real-time perspective of objects around the Sierra HD and its trailer. With the 2024 Sierra HD, this feature can work with the gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailers. Other helpful views with this camera system include a close-up of the hitch trailer, a cargo bed view, and a full-length side view when using lane changes with the trailer. All these fantastic angles can be run through the optional 13.4-inch touchscreen display, which provides you with split-screen capability while carrying an infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity and Google feature integration. There is also an available 12.3-inch digital gauge display. If its safety features you're after, the Sierra HD is happy to oblige as it has automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning with pedestrian detection.
How's the interior of the Sierra HD?
New to the Sierra HD is the Denali Ultimate trim which will provide drivers and passengers with new extreams in comfort and compatibility. There are full-grain leather seats, door panels, dash top, and any other touchable surface you can think of, except for the open-pore wood accents. In addition, the headliner, visors, and windshield pillars are wrapped in microsuede as the front-passengers rest on the 16-way power-adjustbale, messaging front seats. Standard features also include a sunroof, digital rearview mirror, 15-inch color head-up display and Kicker audio system. A sweet and clear 12-speaker Bose audio system is optional.
