¬Here are the different types of transmissions:

Automatic Transmission (AT) – This is a type of transmission that uses bands or clutches, a torque converter, and planetary gearset to shift from one car gear to another automatically. Different types of automatic transmissions include autostick, Triptonic, and shiftable automatic.

Manual Transmission (MT) – Also known as a standard transmission or stick shift, this transmission allows the driver to select all the gears he wants manually. This uses a gear selector that is movable as well as a clutch that is operated by the driver.

Automated Manual Transmission (AM) – This type of transmission is also known as Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) or Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). This transmission uses a mechanical clutch, which is not controlled by the driver as it’s manual counterpart. Its clutch is automated using pneumatic, electronic, or hydraulic controls.

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) – Instead of using gears to maintain the acceleration curve, this transmission uses sensors, pulleys, and belts. It also has a continuously variable drive ratio.
